Branded Environments

To demonstrate the power that a simple logo design can have on a community, I have chosen arguably the most easily recognized and powerful brand symbol of the 21st century, the Nike Swoosh. The swoosh was designed by a student in 1979 and has remained unchanged since, with its notoriety only climbing since. Upon their conception, the Nike brand shoes (their first product) were meant to be a cheap, American alternative to the more expensive running shoes from Europe. Cheap and simple, much like the plain, one piece checkmark designed to represent their name. We could even relate this to the company's slogan, "Just do it," which also conveys that same message of simplicity. Overall, the Nike check is sleek, simple, and quite literally black and white. Nike has since brought this sleekness to the shoe industry, but also to apparel, accessories, sports equipment, and even glasses.
